What’s new around here?

You may have noticed a few changes around the site, but in case you didn’t, I thought I’d point them out.  I finally joined the Flickr bandwagon.  So, now all my photos have a link to that photo uploaded in Flickr (at least the new ones do; I’m probably not going to go back and add all the photos from the archives).  In some cases, the Flickr picture may be bigger, if I cropped it down to use on the site, so you may see a little something extra. Also, sometimes I want to add more pictures than I have room for, so you may see a few more pictures of the dish if you click through to its set on Flickr.

I’ve also added an animated link to my photostream over —-> on the right sidebar.  There, you might get a sneak peek of what’s coming up before it’s posted here, or you might catch a picture of us doing something other than eating or going somewhere other than the kitchen.

I’ve also recently joined twitter.  You can follow me @mwelting or see my profile here.  Be forewarned though — I post pretty sporadically (mostly about what I’m eating, of course), so don’t expect too much.

Finally, I’ve been using this cool site springpad that I found via The Kitchn, and I’ve been meaning to tell you about it.  It has ways to organize all kinds of things, but I use it mostly for recipes and meal planning.  It has a feature where it can automatically read in recipes from the web (though this can be finicky) and puts them in a database for you.  You can also type or copy in recipes yourself.  You can then use their weekly meal planner to drag and drop meals onto days:

It then even has features to make a grocery list for you out of the ingredients lists from those recipes.

It’s all free, at least for now.  My biggest complaint is that there doesn’t seem to be a good way to import and export.  I’m conscious that a beta site like this could disappear at any time, so I wish I could export a backup copy of my recipes.  As it is, I’m just not really depending on it as a way to store stuff, but am using it as sort of an additional tool.  I’ve been wanting some kind of integrated menu planner and grocery list maker for a while, so I’m really excited about it from that perspective.  Play around with it, and let us know what you find in the comments!
